I am directed by Mr.Secretary Long to inform you that the Governor of Hong Kong has intimated that he is prepared to place your services at the disposal of this Office for a period of six months in the first instance, and agrees that you should be regarded during this period as

on leave of absence from the Colony, and should receive the full salary of your appointment as Superintendent of Exports and Imports but without duty allowance.

2. Mr.Long understands that you have informally expressed your willingness" to place your services at the disposal of this Office on these conditions.

3. I am to request that you will be

so good as to inform me at your earliest convenience upon what date it will be

conveniant to you to take up your duties in

this Office.
